Stage 4 Melanoma
August 9th, 2019
What had been a progression of melanoma to Stage 4 (in lymph nodes and torso) became exponentially more serious as a PET scan revealed a 2.3 cm tumor in his brain.
How was this tumor discovered?
Well, I mentioned the PET scan above. That scan was suggested by one of Barrie's dearest friends after learning that the melanoma was classified Stage 4 (after a surgery to investigate and remove a few growths from his torso showed that there were more growths than originally anticipated). Barrie's friend had done some reading up on melanoma and discovered that it is known to travel to the brain. Interestingly enough, Barrie's oncologist/ surgeon didn't suggest the PET scan because Barrie isn't showing any signs/ symptoms of a tumor in his brain. I am unclear as to what symptoms would betray the tumor's presence.
Regardless, we are praising God that there are no symptoms and that the Lord used Barrie's friend to suggest the PET scan! This story could have had the Second Act play out very differently.
What is the course of action?
Regarding conventional treatment:
Barrie's appointment with the neurosurgeon today was rescheduled for tomorrow (8/15) at 8:00am. We are hoping to know more after that appointment.
Already, the doctor has mentioned surgery and radiation. Barrie has confidence in his doctor's decision.
Regarding alternative and holistic treatment:
The plan is:
I know we all (Barrie, Debbie, & Coral) would appreciate your prayers above all else. The Lord is clearly still in the business of miracles - this journey has already had some. Let us pray expectantly that the Lord will grant us our requests and we will witness even more miracles unfold.
...more to come...
